Court Orders Jerusalem To Fund Gay Pride Parade
A court has ordered the Jerusalem Municipality to fund the Gay Pride Parade, scheduled for August. Judge Judith Tsur accepted a petition submitted by The Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance and ordered the municipality to pay 350,000 shekels (about $78,000) for previous cultural and social activities held by the establishment.
The Open House, which serves the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in Jerusalem, has filed several lawsuits against the municipality, run by ultra-Orthodox Mayor Uri Lupolianski. The lawsuits protest the city's refusal to fund the establishment's ongoing activities and its attempts to prevent the Gay Pride Parade from taking place.
